Ethylenedioxy dimethanol is a low-molecular-weight diol (molecular formula C₄H₁₀O₄) featuring two methanol functionalities linked by an ethylenedioxy bridge. It is a colorless to pale liquid with multi-functional reactivity (hydroxyl groups) that makes it useful as a solvent/modifier, intermediate in specialty syntheses, and as an additive in formulations requiring hygroscopic, hydrophilic performance. The material is handled as a hygroscopic diol and requires standard chemical handling and EHS controls.

Application

Solvent and formulation modifier
Used to adjust solvency, hygroscopicity and rheology in water-borne and solvent formulations.

Chemical intermediate
Serves as a diol building block for synthesis of polyols, crosslinkers and specialty intermediates.

Biocide precursor / slow-release donor
Applied in selected systems as a formaldehyde-donor precursor or slow-release antimicrobial intermediate in controlled formulations.

Desulfurization and gas-treatment additive
Used in certain industrial gas-treatment and desulfurization processes as a reactive additive or carrier.

Analytical and reagent use
Used as a reference reagent, sample matrix modifier or standard in R&D and QC laboratories.

Research & specialty applications
Employed in niche R&D where bifunctional hydroxymethyl ethers are required (photochemistry, specialty polymer research).
